Costes Armchair
By Philippe Starck for Driade, Italy
Dimensions: 800mm h x 475 mm w x 580 mm d x 470 mm sh
Materials: Mahogany veneer, powder coated steel legs, leather upholstered seat
Colour: Mahogany and black leather
There are objects that are universally recognized as icons. The Costes armchair, which in 1984 marked the beginning of the collaboration between Philippe Starck and Driade, is certainly one such object.
Designed for the now-defunct Parisian café of the same name, it owes its enduring success of its form: an enveloping dark wood shell and three sharply angled legs.
