Peter Preyer (1941-2018)created his own world of images – sometimes described as ‘Peryerworld ‘or ‘Peryerland’ – that did not slot easily into any of the conventional varieties of contemporary photography. He pared back emotional content and dramatic effects, though the personification of objects remained.

Peter Peryer’s photographs are not overtly New Zealand specific, yet contain something grounded in the experience of living in this country.

Enzo Mari (1932 - 2020) was a noted Italian modernist artist and furniture designer. In 2002 the Faculty of Architecture of the Milan Polytechnic awarded him an honorary degree in industrial design. His works are exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Milan Triennale, the Schloss Charlottenburg in Berlin, the M.I.C. of Faenza, at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome, at the MoMA in New York and at the Milan Triennale. For accomplishments, he was awarded many prizes including four Compasso d’Oro.

Mari designed the 'Frate' table collection for Driade in 1973 and it has since become one of his most iconic designs, executed in honest materials and crafted for a lifetime.

There are objects that are universally recognized as icons. The Costes armchair, which in 1984 marked the beginning of the collaboration between Philippe Starck and Driade, is certainly one such object.

Designed for the now-defunct Parisian café of the same name, it owes its enduring success of its form: an enveloping dark wood shell and three sharply angled legs.

Inspired by the game of chess with their sinuous shapes, Re and Regina are the key characters of the chessboard. The King (Re), horizontal the Queen (Regina).

Re and Regina are inspired by the history of art, from Cosmè Tura to the Flemish interiors of Jan Van Eych to the conceptual imagery of Marcel Duchamp who plays chess as a lifestyle. In 2020 FontanaArte reintroduces these glass lamps as a sign of the expressive wealth contained in the great repertory of ideas that is the FontanaArte catalogue.

Designed in 1954 by the famous French Master glassmaker and decorator Max Ingrand, this lamp was originally named 1853 and, at a later time, Fontana, in homage to the company of which the Master was Artistic Director for a decade.
